Redeem – When God meets you everywhere you go…

August 27, 2021

Redeem - When God meets you everywhere you go... Psalms 139:7-10 reads Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. On two separate street outreach nights, the Lord has led our team to a small yet hungry family. This family didn’t lack food but was hungry for the truth, the truth that could only be found at the feet of Jesus.  Hungry for Truth As our team approached Motel 6 on our second outreach night of the month, we were met with celebration. The young father stood in amazement as he said, “I can’t believe I am seeing you all twice. I was just asking the Lord for a sign that he is real and I see you all again.” The young mother of baby O, 10 months and full of joy, smiled and greeted the team gladly accepting her rose. The young mother mentioned that she planted the rose she received the first time in the front bushes and watched it come to life. She mentioned that it recently died, and here we were again with another one to give her! How cool is God’s timing! The family has been staying in a hotel for a month now, awaiting approval for a stable place. The father is the...

TRANSFORMED BY THE IMPOSSIBLE

July 28, 2021

Transformed by the Impossible Sanctified through Taking on the Impossible When Jesus tells us to do something that seems truly impossible we must view it as an open door rather than a barricade. He is not attempting to push us away, but to call us higher and deeper into His heart. I believe it is actually part of our transformation process to do the impossible. We are sanctified by taking it on. As we receive the invitation and the challenge we inevitably become more like Him. It is in our “yes” that he is allowed to build us up in our faith.  Luke 9 In the ninth chapter of Luke we see a beautiful example of this. Jesus challenged the disciples to feed the multitudes. This provoked them into dialogue with the Lord. Instead of shutting down and giving up on their Rabbi, they began talking with him, explaining they didn’t have any food except five loaves of bread and two fish. Their willingness to have this conversation allows Jesus to address their doubt and to give them specific instructions, leading to the miraculous feeding of the 5,000. More than the miracle, I believe what meant the most to Jesus was that the disciples obeyed him like he obeyed the father, becoming more like him in the process.  Provoked into Prayer The impossible is meant to provoke us into prayer, into dialogue with Jesus. In the context of prayer, the ultimate stagnation of it would be for us to only ask the Lord to do things we could do ourselves in our own human strength. This would defy the...

Local Outreach – Confession

Local Outreach - Confession 20 Years of Ministry In my nearly 20 years of serving the Lord in ministry I have been blessed to preach the gospel in different parts of America and even in other countries around the world. I have had personal evangelistic conversations with people I knew well and others I had just met. I have stayed mindful of verses like Mark 16:15 that gives us Jesus’ command to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.’ Also, in Acts 1:8, Jesus says, “…and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”. We are so loved by God that He chose not only to save us but also to entrust us with His glorious gospel. He allows us to be the ones to share it with all people everywhere. What an amazing love! What a marvelous mission! Confession I do have a confession. Over the years I have made the mistake of remembering the nations but missing my neighbors. I have invested time, energy, prayer, and money to fulfill the call of God to go to “Judea, Samaria, and even the remotest parts of the earth”, but missed many opportunities to witness in “Jerusalem”. I have personally been challenged this past year to live out the command of Mark 8:31 to “love your neighbor”. I have intentionally looked to get to know my neighbors and share the love of Jesus with them. Not just neighbors who share my city but those who share my street. I no...

Redeem – Rain or Shine We are Serving

July 27, 2021

Redeem - Rain or Shine We are Serving Deuteronomy 28:12 ESV says The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. “Let’s go”, those were the words boldly said during prayer and worship on a rainy stormy Friday night from the street outreach team. We are called — rain or shine, good or bad situations– to show the love of Christ. That Friday night on outreach, it poured and poured. It seemed to only let up enough for us to drive to the next stop and see the street signs. Nine bold Christian soldiers of God’s army laid hands on women who lived in abusive situations and used drugs daily. Men ministered to those who sold drugs and declared God’s freedom. As the rain drenched our clothing, we all joined in prayer and declared the love of Christ to flood the streets of the block used by the enemy. That Friday night changed my life. I felt the love of Christ in a much more intimate level. If God would send his loving hands and feet in the storm to reach those hurting and hiding behind drugs and sex, how many times had he reached out for you and me? I am reminded by the hymn, “oh how I love Jesus, oh how I love Jesus because he first loved me”.  Jesus’ love doesn’t stop when the storms come. Jesus comes close to the brokenhearted and...

Jesus Makes It Easy to Pray

June 23, 2021

Jesus Makes It Easy to Pray OVERCOMPLICATING PRAYER  Before becoming a prayer room coordinator I had no idea how hard it would be to get believers to pray. While we have seen many become activated in the place of prayer since launching the prayer room, statistically speaking, it is only a drop in the bucket. Vast amounts of Christians are in this city, and I long to see a day where this prayer room is regularly filled with praying and worshipping believers.  I have spent much time thinking about why all this resistance to prayer exists. Recently my thinking turned into dialogue with the Lord, and as is often the case, He turned the spotlight back onto my own life. He began to show me all the times He longed to be with me, and I chose some other activity over Him. It was as if I saw it from His perspective. He was wooing me and I was resisting Him time and time again.  After processing a little further with the Lord I realized the core reason why I don’t pray as I should. It is not because I don’t hear His voice. Many times I feel Him wooing me with His love, and yet I still willingly resist it. Neither is it a lack of zeal or passion for God; underneath it all, I know my heart desires to be with Him above all else. I have come to the conclusion that most often the reason I do not come to Him in prayer is because I overcomplicate prayer in my mind.  JESUS IS EXPLICIT WHEN IT...

Even with only 2 Take the City Outreaches under my belt, they have made such an impact in my own personal journey of faith, and others I have crossed paths with! The most special part to me is knowing that even if I meet someone and I never see them again, I know God has allowed me to touch their heart and plant a seed that I couldn’t have done sitting at home. I’m so thankful for this organization because it truly has allowed me to connect with others, with the goal of bringing them closer to Christ, while becoming closer with God myself at the same time.
