This summer, we offered an internship program called Occupy for high school and college students. Occupy is a 6-week program that is geared toward helping students grow in their identity and intimacy with God by going deeper in the Word of God, prayer, and evangelism. We offer the opportunity for students to learn the backbones of ministry by working closely with Take the City staff in administration, social media, and videography.
While in the program, the students took a trip to Washington D.C. to pray for people on the streets, share the Gospel, and participate in an event called Together 2016. Here is a testimony from one of our students named Sean:
“The trip to Washington D.C. was exciting and an experience I won’t ever forget. I had fun not knowing where God was going to lead me or knowing what was gonna happen next but trusting that whatever it was, it was going to be good. God showed me that when I follow him everything works out just as he plans, and his plans are inevitable and unstoppable. I can’t always identify what God is trying to show me, but I feel his presence, and it feels wonderful, like a roller coaster ride that never ends, a high that can take me further than the clouds or the stars. His love has given me so much to look forward to!
Over and over again, I got to experience being filled up by His joy and giving it out to complete strangers. I loved being able to pray for people and felt overjoyed by the goodness of God when people appreciated me stopping to pray for them! It was like God was so powerful in that moment that nothing could come between me and that person; nothing could stop me from helping make that person’s day. I’ve never been this happy in all my life! I feel down every now and then, but when I see all these beautiful people around me so happy it makes me want to find that joy and experience that same thing. There is joy in knowing that God is in control of everything, and his joy-that is so alive in me-fills me with complete peace.” -Sean Chalmers
