We’re Open! Harvest Coffee

February 20, 2020

After years of dreaming and now months of planning, construction and preparation we have officially opened up Harvest Coffee Community. It’s been an amazing process getting here and the past two weeks have been so exciting seeing so many people come and gather here at our coffee shop. It was two weeks ago that we were holding our grand opening. So many people came out to support us. It was overwhelming and we are so grateful for everyone! We’re excited to report that in just our first two weeks we have far exceeded any expectations that we had as far as how well the coffee shop has been doing. We’ve had a huge response and so many people have been coming each day. One of the most exciting parts of launching the coffee shop is actually not the coffee but rather the prayer room. With the launch of the coffee shop, we are now able to leave our prayer room open six days a week from 7 am until 8:30 pm each night. We have people from so many various churches and backgrounds already coming in at random times each day to pray, read the bible and seek God. Also, each day at 12 pm we are now hosting a prayer meeting for one hour that is open to the public. We typically take time during that hour each day to worship and then pray for various topics. We’d love for you to stop by sometime! We hope to see you...

Local Outreach – Answered Prayer

February 1, 2020

Saturday January 18, we split up into teams and went to different neighborhoods to preach the Gospel and share Christ’s love. Over the past few months, one of our outreach leaders, Dasi, has felt led to take a team and go to her own neighborhood in the Staffordshire subdivision and share the Gospel. When she went this past time, God answered a woman’s prayer. Dasi and a new friend ventured to her neighborhood. After they parked at her house, they prayed and asked the Lord where they should go. They began walking and simultaneously were drawn to a house nearby. Dasi and her friend knocked on the door and what happened next was God and God alone. The woman yelled, “Come in!” To her surprise, Dasi found the door to be unlocked and slowly opened it. They walked down the center hallway and found the woman in the kitchen. The woman had been praying all night and had asked God to give her a sign that He was there and cared about her. Dasi and her friend introduced themselves and explained that they were there to pray for her. The woman grasped Dasi’s friend’s hand and responded through tears, “I know Jesus loves me, because God sent you both here to me today.” The three women sat and exchanged stories. The Lord’s power began to fill the room as they prayed for each other. The women connected and let go; they wept together and rejoiced as the Lord moved in their hearts. The Lord ministered to each woman with specific words of encouragement, and for the lady of the...

Bradley Circle Community Christmas Party

How do you and your family like to celebrate the Birth of our Savior Jesus Christ? Meals, Christmas carols, presents, and a sharing of the story of the coming of the Christ child? Andrew and Ellen Chalmers, our Lifehouse missionaries, along with Pastor Chuck Hasty and their Grace Presbyterian church community partners put on an old fashioned Christmas celebration to be remembered! They began by canvassing their community to pass out personal and written invitations to join their party on December 23. Prior to the party, Ellen and Andrew hosted the Bradley Circle children for a coloring contest to prepare decorations for the party and bake some of Ellen’s amazing cookies. Grace Presbyterian joined with RiverTown Church to buy presents for the community. The Bradley Circle LifeHouse was filled with 30+ of the community plus a large group from Grace Presbyterian in an evening of good food, fellowship, and present opening. Pastor Chuck then shared a Christmas devotional with the group and invited all to join in a community caroling outing to end this celebration of the birth of our Savior.  The evening concluded with caroling from house to house in the Bradley Circle community bringing glad tidings of the coming of God’s peace and goodwill to all mankind at the Birth of Jesus Christ- Emmanuel, God with us and for us! Reminds this writer of an old fashion Walton Christmas celebration… You can experience the joy of this community LifeHouse celebration by watching the video below: Louis A. Chalmers, Jr, LifeHouse Director...

W.A.R. Weekend – Redeem – Power & Transformation

This past weekend, our Redeem ministry team rented out a local motel room and had constant prayer, worship, and outreach. Friday January 24th started out like any other day. Jessica Cronin along with a few volunteers ran around taking care of last minute items to prepare for the weekend. The team met up at the hotel and began their weekend with worship and prayer. Even from the first note, the atmosphere began to shift. Music filled the air, and guests staying in the motel were drawn to Jesus. In the first night alone, the Redeem team were able to help a woman and her two children get off the streets, and see 4 people give their lives to Christ. The next day, the team split up into groups of two to three people and walked around the area. Their heart in going out was to minister and share the love of Jesus. In route, Jonathan Cronin and a friend of his met a man named Kevin and his wife Alana. Kevin had been bound to a wheelchair all his life. This inspired the guys to pray for him, believing that Jesus would heal his legs and that he would be able to stand up and leave his wheelchair. Laying their hands on the man’s shoulders, Jonathan and his friend began to pray. As they did, the power of Jesus showed up in great measure. The man began to feel strength in his legs. Encouraged, the man tried to stand up. He did!!! He even began to walk forward!!! His wife wanted to cry but she was too elated to...

Redeem Outreach – A Touch from Jesus

January 10, 2020

There are many different ways to minister to women in the life of sexual exploitation. Beyond outreaches to hotels and strip clubs, several of our women volunteers minister to those in the life of prostitution through online ministry. Through advertisements on various websites, our volunteers will identify ladies who are selling themselves and will simply text them and try to start a conversation with them. While some women only reply a couple times, others will reply back and forth with our volunteers many times. The following is a testimony of one such woman who was greatly moved by our online outreach. Kathryn Guthrie, one of our volunteers in the Opelika area, reached out to a girl online. They carried back and forth for quite some time. Kathryn learned a little about her life and situation and began to pray for her. Just a couple months later, Kathryn and a team of 14-15 people spent the night in a local hotel to pray for women to be set free from the bondage of the sex trade and to share the Gospel with them. Kathryn Guthrie and her team entered into a time of worship. As the music began, a beautiful song reached the ears of a woman in the room above. Her heart began to soften, and she texted Kathryn and asked if she could come down and join them. This was the same girl that Kathryn had been texting with and praying for. As the girl came into the room, she let go and openly wept. As she lay in Kathryn’s arms, Jesus ministered His love to her. She...

Friendship Baptist Church Community Outreach

November 26, 2019

We are thankful for our ministry partnership with Pastor Emmitt Aniton and the historic Friendship Baptist Church on 6th Ave in Downtown Columbus. We were blessed to join them for their annual Saturday community outreach in September. I’ve never felt more welcomed by any church family than Nancy and I experienced that Saturday. We were given a VIP tour of the building and enjoyed learning their story of faithfulness as a family of faith. Taking the church outside of our buildings is an excellent opportunity to  share with our communities that the Church is not our lovely buildings built to the glory of God, but we his children worshiping, praising, and sharing hospitality and love with our neighbors. (Jn. 13:35) The morning kicked off at 10am with a welcome, worship, and praise under a tent. A message of Gospel encouragement was responded to by several rededications and new professions of faith. Mayor Skipper brought greetings from our City Council and encouraged more of this type of community outreach in our community by all churches. An excellent lunch followed with burgers, dogs, and all the trimmings.  There was an amazing video gamers van that the young and young of heart enjoyed. Quite an amazing Saturday morning in downtown Columbus. Let us know if you have community outreaches at your churches that we can join in with you.  You and your church family are always welcome to join our Take the City Unity Night of Prayer at 6:30 PM on the 3rd Friday and outreach on the 3rd Saturday each month. Mark December 21-22 on your calendar and plan to join us at 2910 2nd...

Redeem Outreach

During one of our outreaches this month we saw many miracles happen within our city. Prior to going out on the streets, we spent a while worshipping and praying. During that time, we asked God to show us what He wanted to do tonight. Everyone in the room heard something in relation to downtown Columbus. We finished praying and split into three teams. We drove downtown and began walking around, sharing the love of Jesus everywhere we went. Among our teams, we were able to minister to people in many different walks of life: atheist, homosexuality, and military families. The love of Christ knows no borders and is available for everyone. We saw many peoples’ hearts opened by the love of Jesus in us, and their hearts being delivered from bondage. We know the call on our lives is to love God and be radically obedient to His leading. We are seeing our team come alive as we go to the lost and experience what they were created for: being His hands and His feet.  Be Praying! We are still following up with those we met and are believing for great breakthrough!  Email Jessica Cronin at jessica@take-the-city.com to get...

7 Salvations in Phenix City!

On November 16th, we sent out six groups of people who are involved with various churches across the Chattahoochee Valley to share the love of the Lord with neighbors in Columbus GA and Phenix City AL. One group went across the river to a neighborhood near the church: Praise Ministry Tabernacle. As the group walked down the street, they came to a house and knocked on the door. The couple who answered were actually just friends of the people who owned the home. Our team talked with the couple and shared the love of Jesus with them. In the end, the woman gave her life to Christ! Later, the group encountered a 17 year old boy and his little brother. They too received the gift of the Gospel and prayed the prayer of salvation! About thirty minutes later, the team met four children: 3 boys and a girl. As the team shared the Truth of the Gospel with them, the Lord moved in their hearts, and they too prayed the prayer of salvation! What could have been just a normal, leisure Saturday in November turned into a powerful day of encountering people with Christ’s love. Many lives were ministered to and 7 people gave their lives to Christ! God be...

Donna

My first encounter with Take the City was going to Wilson Apartments in Columbus GA. We were met by a man from that neighborhood who prayed with us before we began the outreach. We set up an area for the kids to play and others went door to door witnessing and praying for people. It truly was a humbling experience. Another time I got to pray at an abortion clinic which was another humbling experience. The worship services the night before are always dynamic and spirit led. However I will conclude with the best part for me was being an eight week participant of Take the City boot camp. All of the leaders were simply AWESOME and I learned so much during those eight weeks. I thank God for all these wonderful opportunities!
