In January of this year, 15 leaders from all over Atlanta gathered in Tyrone, GA to pray about Reach Atlanta and discuss what the future of Atlanta could look like if the churches united together to take the city for Christ.
The goal of Reach Atlanta was not to become one more thing or organization to join, rather it would be the interworking of churches all across the Atlanta area, learning how to share the Gospel in everyday life, and then doing so regularly in small groups. This could be a grocery store, a park, a business meeting, a person’s home. Everyone has a story, and these leaders decided to come together and figure out how to help awaken people in their city to share the Gospel and testimonies of God’s power in their lives on a daily basis.
After spending a solid hour in prayer, the team of leaders hashed out next steps. The plan: 18 training events in 12 months all across Atlanta. It could happen with everyone’s help! One person chose to help run social media, others said they could talk to 2 or 3 pastors they knew, and others said they could make phone calls to churches across the area where they lived. Teamwork makes the dreamwork. And if you are thinking of taking a city as big as Atlanta for Christ, you are going to need all the teamwork you can get!
Since this initial meeting, the leaders from this meeting and more people since have been working fervently to connect with pastors and other leaders all over the Atlanta area. Many relationships have been formed, and several people have been trained and commissioned to lead Reach groups: a person commits to going to the same place with 3-5 other people once per week with the intention of building relationships and sharing the Gospel, to be a consistent representation of the Gospel at a particular place.
