Redeem - Rain or Shine We are Serving

Deuteronomy 28:12 ESV says The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.

“Let’s go”, those were the words boldly said during prayer and worship on a rainy stormy Friday night from the street outreach team. We are called — rain or shine, good or bad situations– to show the love of Christ. That Friday night on outreach, it poured and poured. It seemed to only let up enough for us to drive to the next stop and see the street signs.

Nine bold Christian soldiers of God’s army laid hands on women who lived in abusive situations and used drugs daily. Men ministered to those who sold drugs and declared God’s freedom. As the rain drenched our clothing, we all joined in prayer and declared the love of Christ to flood the streets of the block used by the enemy.

That Friday night changed my life. I felt the love of Christ in a much more intimate level. If God would send his loving hands and feet in the storm to reach those hurting and hiding behind drugs and sex, how many times had he reached out for you and me?

I am reminded by the hymn, “oh how I love Jesus, oh how I love Jesus because he first loved me”.  Jesus’ love doesn’t stop when the storms come. Jesus comes close to the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. That stormy Friday night was a true picture of the good treasures raining on God’s land proclaiming it back to Jesus. Come rain or shine, we serve. Good news or bad news, we have committed to bring the news of Jesus’ love to all.

I learned about Take The City through a young lady at our church about 5 years ago and after going on my first outreach, I was HOOKED. I fell in love with the family environment, organic evangelism, and genuine love that I experience here.  The training, connections, and opportunities that I’ve been blessed with here have been nothing short of life-changing!  God bless my TTC family.
