Thoughts From The Prayer Room

October 29, 2020

Gratitude for Weakness Feeling weak… Last week was difficult and at first I had no idea why. I found it difficult to pray or even worship the Lord. Discouragement set in; then despair; then apathy. All the while I could feel myself losing connection with the Lord more and more. As I lost connection with Him I began to lose connection with the people around me as well. I felt isolated, quite miserable, and even a little hopeless. All of this happened within a 24 hour time frame without any major identifiable cause. Then, suddenly, something amazing happened.  Gratitude for weakness… I was driving in my car, stuck in my own pity party, when all of a sudden the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance 2 Corinthians 12:9… “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” I felt my shoulders relax, my mind set at ease and my heart fill with gratitude for God’s power being made perfect in my weakness. Those negative feelings didn’t hold the same power they did before and I had an inner joy flood my entire soul. My whole week from that point on was outstanding, filled with amazing moments of family fun, fulfilling work, and most importantly my connection with God was reaffirmed.  Weakness is not a disqualifier… This experience was honestly a first. I’ve thanked God for many things in my life, but never have I thanked Him for my weaknesses! In...

Why Pray?

August 28, 2020

We recently had a very powerful week in the prayer room. We saw real breakthrough as people gathered and worshiped throughout the week. Lives were touched and changed. People were activated in prayer and worship. New volunteers signed up. The presence of God was tangible all week long!  Obviously this was very exciting for me as the coordinator of the prayer room. All week I found it easy to wake up and feel the joy of the Lord, to seek Him in my quiet time, and even to share my faith with total strangers. However, something strange happened to me that Saturday. I woke up and prayed just like everyday before. I read my Bible. I was faithful in my personal devotion to Jesus, yet I didn’t feel amazing like I had all week. I felt foggy and weighed down. I found myself questioning what was wrong with the way I was praying… After a little thought, I suddenly realized that I had unwittingly diminished prayer into a formula. I’d allowed my prayer life to be motivated by positive feelings. This led me to ask myself an important question: why do I pray at all? This question led to an even bigger one: why do we need a house of prayer? Surely it had to be more than just good feelings!  Examples of Prayer in the Bible Themes of prayer run throughout the entire Bible, but there are times where prayer absolutely stands out. From walking with Adam in the cool of the day (Gen. 3:8) to speaking to Moses through a burning bush (Exod. 3), to using the...

The First Step to Leadership Growth

August 27, 2020

Leadership growth begins with the simple acknowledgement that a single person can accomplish only a fraction of what a team can. If we truly want to be a part of something big that God wants to do in the earth, then effective leadership starts with the realization that we’re limited and we need others. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is, “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10).” This verse helps us understand that the launching pad to true wisdom begins with the knowledge of God and our reverence for Him. Based on this simple Bible proverb, I’d suggest another proverb related to leadership: “The beginning of true leadership is the knowledge of our own need for others.” Once a leader acknowledges their own limits, deficiencies and need for others, they can begin to invite others to join them on a journey, helping them to build something greater than any one person can accomplish.  When a leader starts with this acknowledgement then it’s easier for them to continue to credit great successes and breakthroughs to the team and not merely to themselves. This is essential in not only growing a team but also in maintaining a team. For example, I need others so that WE can succeed, not merely so I can succeed at their expense. When people sense that a leader is self aware and understands their need for others, they will be more fully engaged in serving that leader’s vision. When the vision of the leader is greater than themselves and requires a team, the team understands they’re all in...

United In Prayer

November 1, 2018

What is United in Prayer? United in Prayer is an initiative of Take the City which unifies local believers for worship and intercession to prepare the way for lives to be transformed by the love and power of Jesus. What does the Church need today? “What the Church needs to-day is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use — men of prayer, men mighty in prayer. The Holy Ghost does not flow through methods, but through men. He does not come on machinery, but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men — men of prayer.” ― E.M. Bounds, Power Through...

Sky Terminal – Free Concert

We are so excited to announce that Sunday January 1st we will be hosting the band Sky Terminal. This will be an all ages show and will be open to the first 200 people who come that night. Be sure to get there early!

Sky Terminal is a melodic rock band from Toronto, Canada. Comprised of band members Marcel Preston and Scott Mason, Sky Terminal is rapidly becoming known for a distinctive fusion of rock music with a message of hope.

The music was birthed over a 5 year period where lead vocalist Marcel Preston crafted and recorded songs in his own personal studio.  With the release of “Don’t Close Your Eyes”  (2011), the album picked up a Juno Nomination.    The band followed up with multiple coast-to-coast tours and were featured on radio across the country.  Following the success of their first album, they spent eight months in studio producing their sophomore album, “We Are One,” released it in the spring of 2014, which was recently named “Rock Album of the Year” at the Canadian GMA awards.  A new studio album is underway and is set for release in the fall of 2016.

Sky Terminal continues to forge the future of their music with new songs and touring.  “We just can’t wait to get back on the road.  We love to do what we do and we just can’t do it without the support of our families, friends – and fans. We love to meet all these people that have supported our music along the way.  Seeing our music have an impact on people gives us reason and vision to keep doing what we do.  Our listeners have been such a key ingredient in our success and we can’t thank them enough.  We see our music as a window of opportunity into someone’s life.  We sing about hope and love.  There’s always a story that can be told that will change our lives and perspective.  That’s what we aim to do.”   (Marcel, lead vocalist)
