Giving Inspires

November 28, 2022

Giving Inspires As Pastor Chuck and Jeanne Hasty sit across the table, their eyes light up as their minds turn to the neighborhood kids who have become an extension of their church. Grace Presbyterian ECO is known for its generosity and servants’ heart and longtime friends Andrew & Ellen Chalmers knew they’d be a perfect fit in coming alongside the Bradley Circle Project Lifehouse. “We wanted to partner with and build relationship and join God in what He’s already doing – not to necessarily recreate anything,” Jeanne explained. It didn’t take long for the church to find their place… or more accurately, places, and became very intentional about picking up kids in the neighborhood and bringing them to church. After-school tutoring showed itself as a need and the church responded with Tutoring Tuesdays. People with expertise in a certain subject began to join in. Rides are provided if necessary for the students, as well as snacks and even school supplies. The church discovered there were a lot of gardeners among the congregation and soon partnered with the neighborhood garden. MercyMed also joined in as consultants/advisors for the garden. Now that the kids are older, the Hastys’ pick them up for church youth group. The relationships that have developed over the past few years is evident. In the middle of a conversation with Pastor Chuck, a teenager let out, “I prayed for someone to be a father in my life and that’s how I think of you!”  During the holiday season, the kids have helped to provide 30-40 baskets at Thanksgiving and 24 at Christmas. They’ve also organized a coat...

Unity Inspires

November 10, 2022

Unity Inspires Elizabeth Canty Apartments  The quiet of the morning in the neighborhood was interrupted by a car creeping its way down the road, leaving the booming echo of the music in its wake. A group of five young teenagers followed its call to admire both the stereo and the car. At the same time, Tre Rager and Ben Whittaker emerge from their vehicle with several others because it’s “Harvest Day” – a Take the City monthly outreach into communities to build relationships and share the gospel. One of the group shares that Take the City’s outreaches started in this same area 10 years earlier with block parties that featured grill outs and bouncy houses.  Today, everyone is focused on a man, gun tucked into his belt, and his daughter who were standing on the sidewalk. They had been in conversations before, so he waved and welcomed the group over. Since their last meeting, the man had gotten married and shared that they were doing more things together as a family than ever before. He was glad to see them today, he said, because they were getting ready to move. Ben and the rest of the TTC group pray a powerful prayer over him before they part ways. The leader within the community, who had been touched by the Lord a few years earlier, has learned how to lead a Bible study for the people to be equipped. “You have vision for your family and now you’re being strong for other families too,” Tre told him, offering to help in any way he could and encouraging him in his prayer...

The Spirit Tells us to Encourage and Celebrate His Work

August 30, 2022

The Spirit Tells us to Encourage and Celebrate His Work God is bringing about the good for He alone is good and His mercy endures forever. His hand moves in all places where the name of Christ is being exalted. As a result, the homeless and addicted have the Gospel preached to them and come off of the streets. Those in prison or jail have their minds transformed and renewed. People get baptized into the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Members of the Body of Christ are strengthened in churches and house fellowships as they are equipped for the work of ministry. Missionaries go out into the mission field to proclaim the Gospel where there has never before been a proclamation.  These are just a few of the things God is doing – just as the Word says: “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written” (John 21:25). Because of this reality, we never minimize or cast off as casual what God is doing in our generation and instead encourage and celebrate it! There is a renewed focus on unity among the Body of Christ as God draws those who have an ear to hear into a deeper understanding of what the Apostle Paul said: “One faith, one Spirit, one baptism” (Ephesians 4:5-6). Together, we can celebrate the fruit of our labor and rejoice in the works of God all around the world!   So be encouraged, brothers and sisters, and know that...

Project Lifehouse – Let the Little Children Come

August 2, 2022

Project Lifehouse - Let the Little Children Come Brandon and Kristina began showing the Chosen series as a form of outreach in their neighborhood. Before they knew what was happening, tons of kids were showing up each week and they had to switch up their plans! They started offering interactive games and a mini-Bible story lesson instead. As they kept going, the Lord began to soften the children’s hearts, and at the end of the eight weeks, four kids prayed the prayer of salvation. Since then, two girls have been showing up almost daily to hang out with Brandon and Kristina and their kids. They are yearning for more of the Lord, fun, and family, and that is exactly what Brandon and Kristina have to offer. The girls even went on a daytrip with Brandon and Kristina and their family to Callaway Gardens. The Lord is moving on these girls’ hearts, and they are experiencing joy, peace, and freedom. Please pray for Brandon and Kristina and their family as they continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus in their neighborhood and for these girls to know Jesus more and...

Harvest Day Testimony

July 27, 2022

Harvest Day Testimony During our Harvest Day Outreach on Saturday July 23rd, one of our teams went into Phenix City, specifically the shopping plaza parking lot on the corner of 13th St. There, the team met a man named Kietel. After starting a conversation with him, the team learned that he was currently homeless. After approximately 30 mins of conversation, Kietel admitted that he wanted help and that he felt the need to accept Jesus as the Savior of the world. After leading him through a prayer of salvation, our team offered Kietel a chance at a new life by going into a discipleship program where he could get off the streets and be housed as he grows in the Lord. Praise God, he accepted the offer and is now on his journey with Christ.  If you would enjoy being a part of outreach, email...

Donna

My first encounter with Take the City was going to Wilson Apartments in Columbus GA. We were met by a man from that neighborhood who prayed with us before we began the outreach. We set up an area for the kids to play and others went door to door witnessing and praying for people. It truly was a humbling experience. Another time I got to pray at an abortion clinic which was another humbling experience. The worship services the night before are always dynamic and spirit led. However I will conclude with the best part for me was being an eight week participant of Take the City boot camp. All of the leaders were simply AWESOME and I learned so much during those eight weeks. I thank God for all these wonderful opportunities!
