Radical Forgiveness

July 24, 2017

One of the most radical teachings that Jesus taught and exemplified in his life was the teaching of forgiveness. His teachings on letting go of judgments and releasing forgiveness to others challenge our social norms and tendencies in every way. Our hearts seek revenge naturally. We seek to bring justice and make wrong things right. Jesus teaches us to be radical in our following his example by giving forgiveness and grace freely to others who do not deserve it. What did Jesus teach about forgiveness? Matthew 18:15-35 Jesus teaches us not to harbor anger and bitterness but to confront people about the ways they have hurt us. Jesus teaches us not to gossip and slander people but rather to go directly to them about the offense. Jesus teaches us that when we learn to let go of our offenses and come together in agreement that He will be in our midst. Jesus teaches us that when we walk in this radical forgiveness that anything is possible. Jesus teaches us to forgive others even when they hurt us over and over and over again. Jesus teaches us to see that the debt we may be owed by others pale in comparison to the debt we owe due to our sins before God. Jesus teaches us that if we don’t forgive others that we actually forfeit the incredible blessings that come from enjoying the forgiveness and grace of God.   How did Jesus model forgiveness? Luke 23:26-43 Jesus modeled forgiveness for us by going to the cross for the sins of humanity. Jesus modeled forgiveness by making a declaration of forgiveness...

When Jesus loves on Muslims at a Restaurant: An Eyewitness Account

May 18, 2017

Mariel Villareal has served with Take the City since last June. She serves as the leader for the ministry team at theDoor and often serves as a leader on Take the City Bootcamp weekends, a time of evangelism training to equip people to share the Gospel in there schools, workplaces, and cities. Below is a powerful story on the way to a Bootcamp in South Carolina. We were at a popular restaurant getting ready to leave when Jason comes up to me and says, “I feel like  Jesus told me that one of the women behind us has wrist pain.” I turn to look and see two ladies, a mother and daughter, wearing hijabs sitting at a booth behind us. Nothing about their appearance suggested that they were in any kind of pain. “Wanna go talk to them?” I thought about it for a moment and replied, “Let’s do it!” We walked up to the table and introduced ourselves. The two women were very warm and kind, and they told us they were from Iraq. The younger was a daughter in her 30s with her mother who only spoke Arabic. After a few moments of conversation, Jason boldly asks them, “Does one of you have wrist pain?” The mother and daughter exchanged puzzled looks, “How did you know that?! My mother has had wrist pain for about a month!” Jason responded, “Jesus told me because he wants to heal you! Can we pray for you?” The daughter translated to her mother, “Yes!” They replied. We prayed and the pain left by 50%. We prayed again and the lady said the pain...

Focus on the One – Impact your world every day

February 4, 2017

A couple months ago, I met Jason, one of my co-workers and friends, at Iron Bank to do some work. At the end of our meeting, I gathered my belongings, put on my purse, and started to cross the street. As I was walking, I noticed a woman who often bikes around the neighborhood. Her face bore the mark of sadness; I struggled inwardly with the decision of whether to stop and check in on her or not. I really needed to eat something, which may seem trivially to most, but having digestive issues, the consumption of food and the timing of it is very important for me. As I pondered turning back or not (I had at this point made it across the median to the other side of the street), I looked back to see Jason talking with the woman. I knew if he saw her, he would stop and ask her how she was doing and pray with her, and without missing a beat, he had done that very thing. I was glad he could stop and be there for her even if I could not. Thankful as I was for Jason coming behind me to check in on the woman, it challenged me to stop in my daily flow of life and check in on others. We so often think, in order to give someone love or to share Christ with someone, we have to go out of our way to do so. But there are plenty of people to meet, encourage, and share Christ with, within our daily grind! I know what you’re thinking....

Zan

Take the City has had a huge impact on me and my daughter. When God led me from one place, this door was wide opened. I had the great ability to experience more of God and see the signs that follow them that believed. *Mark 16:17-20*

The people I've met have showed soooooo much love to us and I'm grateful for that. Not only do they teach on truth, but they walk in the power of the Holy Spirit and encourage others around them to do so also!
God has also allowed me to be a part of a ministry as well.
I want to say thank you thank you God first and thank you to Take the City!!❤
