Why is Jesus called Jesus Christ or the Messiah?

November 30, 2020

Have you ever wondered why Jesus from the Bible is called Jesus Christ? In this short bible study, we look at some of the reasons why Jesus is called the Christ or the messiah.     In this session, we look at some of the reasons why Jesus is called the Christ or the Messiah. All through the accounts about Jesus in the gospels, we see him referred to as the Christ. In order to truly understand why this title is important, we must look at some prophecies from the Bible. What we discover when we look through the bible is that the people of Israel had long been waiting for a promised “Messiah” or “Christ”. When Jesus was called the Christ it meant that people were claiming that he was the one they had long been waiting for! “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah…” John 20:30-31 The word Messiah comes from a Hebrew word that means “anointed one”. This Hebrew term was used to specifically point out those that God had appointed for a specific assignment or purpose. When someone was anointed, they were set apart to fulfill God’s plan. The people of Israel knew that there were many prophecies about this coming king who would be a “messiah” or anointed one. There were many prophecies that pointed to this person that they were long expecting and in the gospels we discover that Jesus fulfills all of their expectations. We see that Jesus came as the messiah they had long been waiting for. Jesus is the anointed king of Israel that...

Why do they call Jesus the prophet?

May 19, 2020

In John 6:14 it says, “After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”” Why do they refer to Jesus as “the Prophet?” Have you ever wondered why they called Jesus “the Prophet” in this passage of the bible or in others? Several places in the scriptures we see that when people met Jesus and saw him perform miracles, they referred to him as the Prophet. What we will discover in this video teaching is that there is a difference between people calling Jesus “a prophet” and “the prophet”. The difference is that when people were calling him “The Prophet” they were pointing to a person that the people of Israel had long been waiting for whom was predicted by Moses himself. “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen—” (Deuteronomy 18:15) Long before Jesus, there was a prediction given by Moses that there would one day come another prophet that would be like himself. The people of Israel were all familiar with this prediction that was given by Moses and they were full of expectation that one day this predicted prophet that would be like Moses was for the people of Israel. In the same way, Moses helped to bring deliverance for the people of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt, Jesus came to bring deliverance for the people from the bondage of sin. As we explore in this session, we see that not only...
