Persistence in Prayer

July 29, 2022

Persistance in Prayer Most of us know enough about the teachings of Jesus to understand the value of persistent prayer. He tells us to ask, seek, knock, and repeat until the door opens (Matt 7:7-8). Anyone who has ever actually tried this, though, may have found it to be a daunting task! No one knows this better than our team at Take the City. We launched the Harvest House of prayer right around the time that the pandemic began. We did not plan the timing of this. It just worked out that way! In this sacred space we have gathered corporately multiple times a day for the past two years with a clear agenda– to minister to the Lord in our worship and to pray for God to move in our city, region, nation, and world. Since its inception, we have learned a lot about persistent prayer, particularly within the context of global crises. Here are some key things we’ve learned. Weekly Appointments with the Lord We’ve heard it said by leaders in the prayer movement, “If you want to pray persistently, get it down on a schedule.” There is just something about getting a date and time down on your calendar that increases your likelihood of actually taking a specific action step. We like to refer to these scheduled times of prayer as appointments with the Lord Himself. We’ve found that by describing it this way, more of our volunteers experience His presence more frequently and their prayer sets are much more enjoyable. It feels less burdensome to know that you have a scheduled meeting with the most...

Redeem Angel Tree

December 29, 2020

This Christmas, a church partnered with Redeem to sponsor the ladies at a local club and their children for Christmas gifts this year. They gave over 5000 dollars worth of gifts for both the women and their children! Many women were tearing up as they walked into a room full of gifts for their kids. We are so grateful for Sheila Orr who orchestrated it all and for her church Courts of Praise Worship Center who all came together to sponsor these families. Jonathan and I were able to take one of the women out to lunch afterwards, and she was very open with us. She shared with us on how every woman in there is struggling to make ends meet and how these gifts were such a need this year. We believe that this act of love – continuing to go into the club and building relationships with these women – is going to bring full life transformation to their lives and their children’s lives!  Jessica Cronin, Director of Redeem If you would enjoy getting involved with our Redeem ministry, go to our website and fill out our volunteer...

Longing to see His Face

November 30, 2020

Jessica Cronin takes us on a journey describing how she is longing to see her babies face for the first time. In the same way that we should be longing to see The Fathers face for the very first time. This life is full of trials and tribulations, even pain. However, the moment that we see our Father for the first time will prove to have been supremely worth it. For more information about our ministry, please check out this page and be sure to sign up for our email list to stay in...

Why is Jesus called Jesus Christ or the Messiah?

Have you ever wondered why Jesus from the Bible is called Jesus Christ? In this short bible study, we look at some of the reasons why Jesus is called the Christ or the messiah.     In this session, we look at some of the reasons why Jesus is called the Christ or the Messiah. All through the accounts about Jesus in the gospels, we see him referred to as the Christ. In order to truly understand why this title is important, we must look at some prophecies from the Bible. What we discover when we look through the bible is that the people of Israel had long been waiting for a promised “Messiah” or “Christ”. When Jesus was called the Christ it meant that people were claiming that he was the one they had long been waiting for! “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah…” John 20:30-31 The word Messiah comes from a Hebrew word that means “anointed one”. This Hebrew term was used to specifically point out those that God had appointed for a specific assignment or purpose. When someone was anointed, they were set apart to fulfill God’s plan. The people of Israel knew that there were many prophecies about this coming king who would be a “messiah” or anointed one. There were many prophecies that pointed to this person that they were long expecting and in the gospels we discover that Jesus fulfills all of their expectations. We see that Jesus came as the messiah they had long been waiting for. Jesus is the anointed king of Israel that...
