Sharing hope with our neighbors in the Spring of Covid-19

May 1, 2020

Take the City has refocused our ministries during the past month with schools, businesses, and stores closed, and many neighbors out of work. We have shifted to sharing hope and boxes of food in our Lifehouse communities surrounding our offices including Bradley Circle, Young Avenue, and East Highlands communities. We have distributed more than 300 boxes of food to these communities and the Fox Elementary families. Is your church family looking for an opportunity to become involved in reaching Columbus communities with the love, joy, and peace of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Take the City is looking for a couple of new LifeHouse ministry partners to join with us in supporting and encouraging our urban missionary families in community ministry and monthly outreaches in both the Young Ave community off of Veterans Parkway and Garden Dr off Cosetta Rd. Young Ave Garden Dr Call me to schedule a time we can sit down and discuss how your church family would like to partner in reaching Columbus communities with the light and love of Jesus. I’d be pleased to buy you a cup of coffee at our new Harvest Coffee Co, located in our offices at 2910 2nd Ave. Louis A. Chalmers, Jr. LifeHouse Director...

419 Tents of Worship & Prayer in One Weekend

November 5, 2019

The weekend of October 17-19, we had the opportunity to participate in Tent America, a grassroots movement of day and night worship, prayer and missions, especially focused on the U.S. For this event, people were invited to set up a tent of worship for 50 hours straight wherever they would like: work places, city parks, churches, college campuses, etc. 419 people stepped up to orchestrate 50 hours of prayer and worship in their areas. October 17-19, hundreds of people across the U.S. joined together in prayer for our nation and our cities to encounter God. Prayers were answered as many people did experience Christ’s love. The following stories are testimonies from our tent at Take the City. Louis and Nancy Chalmers along with a few other people were worshiping the Lord from 4am-8am Saturday morning. Around 5am, a guy walked up to the tent. He met the Chalmers and stayed for a long time. At the very end of the night on Saturday, he showed back up at 10pm. He had felt led to come and help tear down the chairs and help where he could. This was an answer to prayer for our team who had been there all day. We told him so, and he felt SO ENCOURAGED! He wasn’t sure if he should come at all; he didn’t want to be a burden. Not at all! Many hands make light work, and he was an incredible help! Later that afternoon, we sent out a few teams of people out across the Chattahoochee Valley to share the Gospel and pray for people. One of our leaders had...

It’s been 3 years!

June 2, 2016

This whole year has been such an exciting year for our entire team with Take the City as we have watched God continue to move in tremendous ways. Our great passion as a ministry is to see the Body of Christ be brought together in unity and mobilized to see our cities transformed by the love of Jesus. This year we have been seeing these two things take place at a level we would have never dreamed of when we first launched Take the City three years ago. This past weekend we held our Take the City outreach event and celebrated 3 consecutive years serving the Chattahoochee Valley. It was so exciting to see all the new people God has brought together and to look back at all God has done over these past years. One thing that was fun for me was looking back at how launching the very first Take the City event was something I really didn’t want to plan. While I knew God was leading us to plan an outreach event in May of 2013, I also was well aware that it was going to be a lot of work to put an event like this together in just a few weeks. I am so thankful that instead of listening to my doubts our small team obeyed the voice of the Holy Spirit in launching the very first Take the City event. The reality is that even after our first event we really had no idea that we were going to do the outreaches again. After some prayer and seeing what God had done in our city we then knew...

Sky Terminal – Free Concert

We are so excited to announce that Sunday January 1st we will be hosting the band Sky Terminal. This will be an all ages show and will be open to the first 200 people who come that night. Be sure to get there early!

Sky Terminal is a melodic rock band from Toronto, Canada. Comprised of band members Marcel Preston and Scott Mason, Sky Terminal is rapidly becoming known for a distinctive fusion of rock music with a message of hope.

The music was birthed over a 5 year period where lead vocalist Marcel Preston crafted and recorded songs in his own personal studio.  With the release of “Don’t Close Your Eyes”  (2011), the album picked up a Juno Nomination.    The band followed up with multiple coast-to-coast tours and were featured on radio across the country.  Following the success of their first album, they spent eight months in studio producing their sophomore album, “We Are One,” released it in the spring of 2014, which was recently named “Rock Album of the Year” at the Canadian GMA awards.  A new studio album is underway and is set for release in the fall of 2016.

Sky Terminal continues to forge the future of their music with new songs and touring.  “We just can’t wait to get back on the road.  We love to do what we do and we just can’t do it without the support of our families, friends – and fans. We love to meet all these people that have supported our music along the way.  Seeing our music have an impact on people gives us reason and vision to keep doing what we do.  Our listeners have been such a key ingredient in our success and we can’t thank them enough.  We see our music as a window of opportunity into someone’s life.  We sing about hope and love.  There’s always a story that can be told that will change our lives and perspective.  That’s what we aim to do.”   (Marcel, lead vocalist)
