Radical Forgiveness

July 24, 2017

One of the most radical teachings that Jesus taught and exemplified in his life was the teaching of forgiveness. His teachings on letting go of judgments and releasing forgiveness to others challenge our social norms and tendencies in every way. Our hearts seek revenge naturally. We seek to bring justice and make wrong things right. Jesus teaches us to be radical in our following his example by giving forgiveness and grace freely to others who do not deserve it. What did Jesus teach about forgiveness? Matthew 18:15-35 Jesus teaches us not to harbor anger and bitterness but to confront people about the ways they have hurt us. Jesus teaches us not to gossip and slander people but rather to go directly to them about the offense. Jesus teaches us that when we learn to let go of our offenses and come together in agreement that He will be in our midst. Jesus teaches us that when we walk in this radical forgiveness that anything is possible. Jesus teaches us to forgive others even when they hurt us over and over and over again. Jesus teaches us to see that the debt we may be owed by others pale in comparison to the debt we owe due to our sins before God. Jesus teaches us that if we don’t forgive others that we actually forfeit the incredible blessings that come from enjoying the forgiveness and grace of God.   How did Jesus model forgiveness? Luke 23:26-43 Jesus modeled forgiveness for us by going to the cross for the sins of humanity. Jesus modeled forgiveness by making a declaration of forgiveness...

Help Improve Your Team – Proverbs 27

February 2, 2017

Being a leader can be an enormous challenge and a huge privilege all at once. One of the biggest blessings you have as a leader/ parent/ teacher is getting to watch those you lead grow. There is so much joy to be found as you get to watch them discover their talents, their passions and pursue their dreams. Below is an encouraging word for ministry leaders, pastors and volunteer leaders on how we can apply this simple scripture to help improve your team! Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. When the hay is removed and new growth appears and the grass from the hills is gathered in, the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field. You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed your family and to nourish your female servants. (Prov 27:23-Prov 27:27 NIV ) A Few Things we can learn: God’s greatest treasure he’s given us in the ministry we work in is not the donors, the assets or the events. The greatest treasure are the people He’s entrusted us with. Think of your team this morning and allow God to show you how they are treasure that He’s entrusted you with. Take a few minutes to pray over them. Prayer is a powerful way to help improve your team! Take an honest assessment of your “flock”. Who’s on your team and how are they really doing? Do you sense any conflict, strife or...

Occupy Internship Testimony from Nic Chavers!

September 24, 2016

This summer, we offered an internship program called Occupy for high school and college students. Occupy is a 6-week program that is geared toward helping students grow in their identity and intimacy with God by going deeper in the Word of God, prayer, and evangelism. The internship offers the opportunity for students to learn the backbones of ministry by working closely with Take the City staff in administration, social media, and videography. The following is a testimony of what God did in one of our interns while in the program. Testimony from internship: “I am a sophomore at Columbus State University. I was so excited when I found out that I was accepted into the Occupy Internship. Over the past weeks, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and wisdom about Christ and the authority we have in him through my leaders and our guest speakers. I have developed an understanding of my identity in Christ and have learned the importance of intimacy with him. Occupy has given me an awesome foundation for doing ministry, and I want to maintain a close walk with Jesus each day here after.   As an Occupy group, it has been great to see the fellowship that we have developed among ourselves. I look forward to seeing myself and the rest of the Occupy Interns develop more in their walk with Christ. May God be glorified as he uses us to advance his kingdom.”-Nic Chavers To find out more about Take the City, check us out...

Melissa – YWAM Boston

“Getting to be a part of Take the City was such a blessing both in seeing how God moved in the lives of the people I met as well as how he moved in my heart. I was so encouraged to be surrounded by people willing to passionately pray for their city and the people in it. As we worshipped, people would stop and ask what was going on and we got to talk and pray with them. I felt a greater desire to pray for our nation grow in me as we sang and prayed together.”
