THE CHURCH – By Os Hillman

September 24, 2015

TGIF Today God Is First Volume 2 by Os Hillman Thursday, September 24 2015 “Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you” (Lev 26:8). The Church is called to impact the world. The biblical definition “church” is not an institution or building, but rather it is made up of individuals. Jesus said “wherever two or more meet together, I am in the midst of them.” The biblical word translated as “church” is ekklesia which is the original Greek meaning “the people of God.” The New Testament used this word in two different ways. Sometimes it refers to people of God gathered together in congregations. That is our traditional idea of the local church. But other times it means believers in general, wherever they might find themselves. God calls the Church to be transformers of society through their collective influence. Jesus prayed that His Church would be unified in order for the world to respond to Him. “May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me” (John 17:23). This is our first ever Take the City conference and we are so excited to host International speaker and author Robby Dawkins as our Keynote speaker. Robby and his wife Angie have been married for almost 20 years and have 6 boys ranging from 2 -19. Robby is a fifth generation pastor who was born to missionary parents in Japan. He served as a youth pastor for 12 years for churches between 50 to 14,000 members before he and Angie planted a Vineyard church in the downtown area of Aurora, Illinois (Chicago area) 15 years ago. Their church has many gang members, drug addicts, and prostitutes and just simply down and outers as well as a few middle class. Yet God has shown up to powerfully change these people’s lives through this pastor and church. The mayor of Aurora along with it’s chief of police recently bestowed upon Robby and the Vineyard an acknowledgment that he and his Vineyard church have made a significant difference in Aurora’s crime rate reduction. For the 1st time in 66 years Aurora, IL was declared homicide free in 2012.

Robby has a deep passion to equip the Church and he ministers extensively to do so (in the U.S. and in 38 countries) in various Denominational and Nondenominational circles in Power Evangelism. He was most recently featured in the movie documentaries “Furious Love” in 2010 and “Father of Lights” in 2012.
