Why do they call Jesus the prophet?
May 19, 2020In John 6:14 it says, “After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”” Why do they refer to Jesus as “the Prophet?” Have you ever wondered why they called Jesus “the Prophet” in this passage of the bible or in others? Several places in the scriptures we see that when people met Jesus and saw him perform miracles, they referred to him as the Prophet. What we will discover in this video teaching is that there is a difference between people calling Jesus “a prophet” and “the prophet”. The difference is that when people were calling him “The Prophet” they were pointing to a person that the people of Israel had long been waiting for whom was predicted by Moses himself. “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen—” (Deuteronomy 18:15) Long before Jesus, there was a prediction given by Moses that there would one day come another prophet that would be like himself. The people of Israel were all familiar with this prediction that was given by Moses and they were full of expectation that one day this predicted prophet that would be like Moses was for the people of Israel. In the same way, Moses helped to bring deliverance for the people of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt, Jesus came to bring deliverance for the people from the bondage of sin.
