I’ve heard it said by many, and can agree, that we can never judge another persons salvation. However, it’s unmistakable when you see someone who is radically in love. When you meet someone who is passionately in love with a person, a hobby or profession it’s obvious and “leaks” out of them.
Jesus isn’t looking to just provide a ticket to heaven. He’s looking for lovers. He’s looking for those who will be consumed by His love for them and in return love Him back with everything in them.
We may not be able to judge someone’s salvation, but we can easily identify someone’s “first love”. What consumes their thoughts? What do they talk about all the time? What do they do most of the time? You can look at someone’s life and find out what they really love.
When we look at our own lives, the primary question isn’t just, “will I go to heaven?” I believe the greater question is, “what is my first love???”
We can only love God because we’ve first experienced His love. (See 1 John 4:19) If you look at your life and see that your first love is not Jesus, the only response is to turn from other lovers and towards God. He wants to fill us with His love so we can love Him with our everything. The more we position ourselves to receive His love, the more we can find Him being our first love.
“But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.”
Revelation 2:4-5 ESV
Jesus didn’t come to create converts, he came to beckon His bride (the Church). The thing about a bride, is that she should be consumed with love for her bridegroom. Jesus is looking for not just church attendees, but rather passionate lovers. Pursue Him today with everything in you! Let your heart burn for Him as never before.
Pray this simple prayer today:
“Jesus, I am sorry for not keeping you as my first love. I turn from every other love in my life and give you my whole heart. Let my heart burn with passionate love for you today. Remove all distractions and sin from my life. Forgive me. Fill me with your love today, so I can love you as I should. Amen.”
