Why do they call Jesus the prophet?

Why do they call Jesus the prophet?

In John 6:14 it says, “After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.””

Why do they refer to Jesus as “the Prophet?”

Have you ever wondered why they called Jesus “the Prophet” in this passage of the bible or in others?

Several places in the scriptures we see that when people met Jesus and saw him perform miracles, they referred to him as the Prophet. What we will discover in this video teaching is that there is a difference between people calling Jesus “a prophet” and “the prophet”. The difference is that when people were calling him “The Prophet” they were pointing to a person that the people of Israel had long been waiting for whom was predicted by Moses himself.

“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen—”

(Deuteronomy 18:15)

Long before Jesus, there was a prediction given by Moses that there would one day come another prophet that would be like himself. The people of Israel were all familiar with this prediction that was given by Moses and they were full of expectation that one day this predicted prophet that would be like Moses was for the people of Israel. In the same way, Moses helped to bring deliverance for the people of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt, Jesus came to bring deliverance for the people from the bondage of sin.

As we explore in this session, we see that not only is Jesus the prophet that Moses predicted but he is also so much more! Jesus is our savior and the one who came to offer deliverance and freedom to the whole world from the power of sin and death.

Have you ever wondered why Jesus is called “The Prophet”? This video is jam-packed with scripture which all help us understand why Jesus is referred to as The Prophet in the gospel accounts of the Bible.

    • The jews were expecting the Prophet whom Moses said was going to be raised from amongst their brethren. Thats why the sentence “this is surely the Prophet…” is in the definite sense. Jesus was a Prophet but he wasn’t the one promised. The one promised was to come from the son of Abraham who was to be sacrificed. genesis 22:2 sacrifice your only son Isaac ” how could Isaac have been Abraham’s only son when Isaac was his second son. Muhammad was the only Prophet from the lineage of Abraham eldest son Ismael who was his only son up until the age of 14.

  3. +The Old Testament sacrificial system pointed to Jesus, The Prophet, who would come. He fulfilled the Old Covenant in His flesh by giving Himself as The Perfect Lamb of God to take away our sins. No other prophet has done any works greater. Moses delivered the Israelites out of Egyp’s bondage, but Jesus humbled Himself and through His death, frees anyone who believes in Him from sin’s bondage. Jesus’ works: death, burial, and resurrection from the grave proved His deity, The Son of God.

TTC led me out of darkness and into the love I’ve longed for my entire life, the love of JESUS.  They’ve taught me to love like Jesus by walking out my created purpose.  My Spirit has been healed, I am whole, because of their obedience to do God’s will.  They have introduced me to and welcomed me into a powerful tribe of women that love Jesus with their whole heart.  Women that strengthen, teach, support, and encourage one another with the power and authority given by the Holy Spirit.  I am eternally grateful for their ministry and humbled to be called family.
