Continuous praise, worship and prayer are part of the DNA of Take the City’s Harvest House of Prayer. There are over 30 regular participants who sacrificially commit to doing hour-long sets, and we love that the McCormick family is among them. They are unique in their contribution in that so many of their family participates as several are musicians and singers, including Rick, who is a pastor and the proud father in the clan. “You’ll like me,” Rick says when he meets someone in the prayer room, “but when you meet my family, you’ll forget all about me.” Fully engaged and gifted, the McCormick family’s worship sets are contagious.  “I want to do the invisible things,” said Rick. “It’s what real giving is. We started doing Thursday evenings because it’s sacrificial for us. We don’t want to give what doesn’t cost us anything.” It’s sacrificial in more ways than one– the McCormicks live 45 minutes away. Zeek Tolley, Rick’s son-in-law, who plays and sings, joined as a HHOP volunteer because “I felt the presence of God was easily accessible in the prayer room. It keeps me going even when I’m tired. It’s also helped me to learn how to worship when I’m by myself and how to usher in His presence.”  The family brings themselves to Him and lead others to do the same. It’s giving at its best. Are you inspired by this family? Sow...

Redeem – Powerful Encounters

September 30, 2021

Redeem - Powerful Encounters We ran into the family I mentioned in the August newsletter again on Friday September 10th. This time the family has been approved for housing! They also reported feeling more connected to God since we last prayed and discussed more in detail who God is! The family plans to move into their own trailer next week.  Directly after seeing the family, God led us to Colonial Inn in Phenix City. I had felt a pressing to go there ever since God highlighted the women there that I passed each morning as I headed to my school. Thank God for his direction.. While we were there, over 10 people confessed Jesus as Savior and received salvation! As we delivered chips and roses to them and asked if we could pray for them, we watched as young men put out cigarettes, set down full cans of beer, and one even laid down a knife.  Not only was that amazing but as we walked around, a hotel guest stopped us and brought us other family members to pray over them. One family member was a 7 year old kid (as seen above) who we prayed for safety. As one of our volunteers closed out, the young boy turned back and said “bye God.” He knew he had encountered something different with our visit and prayer.  On our last Friday outreach in August, we encountered a teenage girl in recovery from meth. At the time, the teen did not make eye contact; we followed steps to ensure her safety. This last month, we ran into her again at another...

Redeem – When God meets you everywhere you go…

August 27, 2021

Redeem - When God meets you everywhere you go... Psalms 139:7-10 reads Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. On two separate street outreach nights, the Lord has led our team to a small yet hungry family. This family didn’t lack food but was hungry for the truth, the truth that could only be found at the feet of Jesus.  Hungry for Truth As our team approached Motel 6 on our second outreach night of the month, we were met with celebration. The young father stood in amazement as he said, “I can’t believe I am seeing you all twice. I was just asking the Lord for a sign that he is real and I see you all again.” The young mother of baby O, 10 months and full of joy, smiled and greeted the team gladly accepting her rose. The young mother mentioned that she planted the rose she received the first time in the front bushes and watched it come to life. She mentioned that it recently died, and here we were again with another one to give her! How cool is God’s timing! The family has been staying in a hotel for a month now, awaiting approval for a stable place. The father is the...

Redeem – A Family Met with the Love of Christ

June 23, 2021

Redeem - A Family Met with the Love of Christ In May, on one of the outreach nights, our Redeem team met a family of 6 living in a hotel. A young couple, who had lost their job, income and now a stable home, was forced to go from hotel to hotel with 4 young boys. Our team had the opportunity to dance and laugh with them and pray for and over the elementary and toddler aged boys. The oldest son expressed that he wanted to preach about Jesus, and we joyfully joined in prayer to declare this over his life. The young mom expressed that she wanted prayer for a house; she had been on several waiting lists for months. The eldest son yelled “Thank you Jesus” as we presented his mom and his siblings with roses that night for prayer. Their step-dad sat quietly on the steps, and later expressed his feelings of helplessness for his family. After this acknowledgement, we prayed again for him and his family and after several hugs, we parted ways. In June, during our outreach at another hotel we saw 4 boys playing outside. Our eyes lit up with joy. We heard “Thank you Jesus.” The young lady from the hotel in May had gotten a room for a few nights at this hotel, because it was safer for her boys. The family saw our volunteers, and the boys ran over to give our team a big hug. The family of 4 shared with us that since our last meeting, the boys had received all A’s and finished the school year strong in spite...
